Didier Gardillou is a French ceramic artist, born in 1954, internationally renowned for creating porcelain works of astonishing realism. Trained at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs (ENAD) in Limoges under the guidance of Jean-Jacques Prolongeau, he has devoted more than thirty years to perfecting the art of porcelain trompe-l'œil.

Career : 

Gifted from an early age in the visual arts, a visit to the Musée Adrien Dubouché in Limoges inspired Didier Gardillou to dedicate his life to the ceramic arts.

• 1972–1977 Studied at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs (ENAD) of Limoges, directed by Jean-Jacques Prolongeau. He became both Prolongeau's student and assistant, collaborating in his workshop while participating in the French "1% for Architecture" programme and producing stoneware, faience and hand-painted porcelain works.

• 1979 Awarded by the Chambre Syndicale des Céramistes et Ateliers d'Art de France. Received the First Prize at the Salon des Ateliers d'Art for his complete body of work, including biscuit porcelain sculptures and low-temperature enamelled porcelain.

• 1981 Exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (MAD Paris) as part of the exhibition Contemporary French Ceramics: Sources and Trends, presenting porcelain works decorated in trompe-l'œil.

• 1983 Awarded the Gold Medal at the Paris Fair and won First Prize in the Creativity Competition at the Salon des Artisans d'Art for a nine-piece sculptural work. Exhibited in Tokyo through a partnership involving Printemps, Ateliers d'Art de France, Air France, and the Paris Chamber of Commerce.

• 1982 Works acquired by the Presidency of the French Republic as official gifts for Denmark and Spain, including his celebrated cabbage tureens and sculptural porcelain pieces.

• Early 1990 His former master, Jean-Jacques Prolongeau, joined him in his own studio, where they collaborated on the decoration of porcelain vases and bowls.

His works are represented in private collections throughout France, Switzerland, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain and Italy, and in public collections including the Musée National de Céramique de Sèvres and museums in London.
