Covered box in semi-soft paste porcelain created by Didier Gardillou, representing a spectacular “White Snowball”, entirely composed of a multitude of small flowers modelled individually by hand in relief. Spherical in form, the box rests on a base discreetly integrated into the floral composition.
The entire body and lid are covered with a dense profusion of small white flowers, their centres highlighted with touches of yellow and green, creating a remarkable effect of volume and texture reminiscent of the natural flower clusters of the Snowball hydrangea.
The lid is surmounted by a finial in the form of a green-glazed leafy stem, accompanied by two broad, finely veined leaves in shades of green and purple, providing a refined chromatic contrast with the brilliant whiteness of the floral composition.
While retaining its function as a box, the object also asserts itself as a true decorative sculpture, paying homage to the naturalistic forms of the 18th century while embracing a playful contemporary approach. As is characteristic of the artist's work, the boundary between functional object and work of art is deliberately blurred.
